Travel Notes: Just Returned from French Polynesia

Having recently returned from an incredible journey through French Polynesia, I can confidently say this extraordinary destination exceeded every expectation.

From the iconic turquoise lagoons of Bora Bora to the lush volcanic landscapes of Moorea and Tahiti, every island offered its own unique charm, wrapped in warm Polynesian hospitality and breathtaking natural beauty.

What stood out most to me was just how rewarding island-hopping is in French Polynesia. Whilst staying in stunning resorts such as Le Bora Bora by Pearl Resorts and Le Taha’a by Pearl Resorts were highlights, cruising through the islands is also one of the best ways to experience this remarkable destination.

With over 100 islands spread across a vast stretch of the South Pacific, travelling between islands can take time, making a luxury small-ship cruise an effortless and incredibly immersive way to explore. Cruises such as Paul Gauguin and Windstar allow you to wake up to a new island each day, combining seamless travel with exceptional service, world-class dining and access to remote destinations that are otherwise difficult to reach.

Of course, French Polynesia is about far more than its famous overwater bungalows. Days here can be as active or relaxed as you choose—snorkelling with sharks and manta rays in crystal-clear lagoons, exploring vanilla plantations and volcanic valleys by 4WD, paddleboarding across calm waters, or simply soaking in the beauty of your surroundings.

What makes this destination so special is its balance of adventure, culture and luxury. One moment you’re immersed in authentic Polynesian traditions; the next, you’re enjoying sunset cocktails overlooking some of the most spectacular scenery on earth.​

I will absolutely return - and next time, I would choose to explore more of the islands by cruise, paired with a longer stay in Bora Bora or Moorea.
