India
The sights, sounds, smells of India bring the country alive and need to be experienced first-hand. You will see poverty, you will meet the most gracious of hosts, your culinary tastebuds will be tantalised and you will visit the most magnificent monuments, castles, forts and palaces that simply take your breath away. This is a country that everyone should visit at least once in their lifetime.
The grandest building of them all is of course the incomparable Taj Mahal, an immense mausoleum of white marble built in Agra in the 1600s. The Mughal emperor Shah Jahan built it in memory of his favourite wife. It is the jewel of Muslim art and one of the most prized World Heritage sites.
As you walk in through the gates, you cannot help but gasp. The grounds are pristine and the sense of serenity you feel is quite extraordinary. I have visited twice and this feeling was with me both times. It is imperative to have a guide to share the beautiful story of how this came to be. The spirituality and sense of peace that you feel when you are there will be with you forever and it can never be taken away.
