Jordan
Jordan is a small country with few natural resources, but it has played a pivotal role in the struggle for power in the Middle East. It is located at the crossroads of what Christians, Jews and Muslims call the Holy Land.
The jewel in the crown is without doubt the Ancient city of Petra. It is one of Jordan's national treasures and by far its best-known tourist attraction. Located approximately three hours south of Amman, Petra is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that enchants visitors from all corners of the globe. Much of Petra's appeal comes from its spectacular setting deep inside a narrow desert gorge. The site is accessed by walking through a 1-kilometre chasm, the walls of which soar 200m upwards.
Wadi Rum is a timeless place, virtually untouched by humanity. Here, it is the weather and winds that have carved the imposing desert towers. The serenity in addition to the warmth and hospitality of its people make Wadi Rum the perfect destination for a bit of R&R and/or adventure.
No trip to Jordan can be made without a stay at a Dead Sea resort. At 410m below sea level, the Dead Sea is the lowest place on earth and it is one of the most spectacular natural and spiritual landscapes in the world. The main attraction is of course the soothing, abnormally salty water. The salt content of the water makes it so buoyant that it is impossible to sink. Studies have shown the combination of the Dead Sea water and the rich black mud found along the shoreline to have significant health benefits including increasing circulation, easing discomfort from arthritis, healing allergies, and revitalizing skin.
From the restless city centre of urban Amman to the majestic ruins of civilizations once forgotten, Jordan is a unique destination offering breathtaking sights, charming accommodation and exquisite cuisine.
